Handbuilt and glazed in my studio in Weston-Super-Mare in the South West of Britain.
The seaside town of Weston is famous for its beach donkeys giving rides during the most of the year on the beach. So this is one that is out to pasture after a hard days work, needing a loving new home.
Every donkey I make is unique in both style and glaze pattern. I start with molding a basic form from stoneware clay, onto this I add the hand molded head and iconic ears and complete the donkey with a mane and haircut over the head. The donkey is then fired to 1000 degrees. I hand paint each donkey once it has had this first firing. The donkeys are then fired again to 1230 degrees after which they are ready for sale. The process makes the pottery totally waterproof and durable. Your little donkey will last for your lifetime and beyond with care not to break her.
Size is approximately 11cm x 7cm.
